Chain of Rocks Book

An accordion book about a historic bridge.

This book translates the experience of visiting the old Chain of Rocks bridge in St. Louis. I wanted to create an illusion of simultaneously looking at and looking through: sometimes looking at the details of the bridge itself and sometimes seeing it as a framework for the surrounding environment. I enjoyed using the details of the design, such as the burn marks on the  backs of the laser cut images, the metallic paper, and the cut spine fasteners to reflect the materiality of the bridge.
